Overview
The Rio Verde active adult developments are comprised of three very beautiful and exclusive adult communities: Rio Verde (the original development), Tonto Verde, and the newest community, Trilogy at Verde River. Each luxury community was developed separately and has its own private equity golf course and country club. The three communities are commonly referred to collectively as “The Verdes.”
First conceived as a winter golf camp in the late 1960′s by a group of Minnesota investors, the first community, Rio Verde began development in 1973. When the Rio Verde property was approaching build-out another 695 acres was acquired and called Tonto Verde. The first of the two Tonto Verde golf courses opened in 1996, along with the 26,000 square foot clubhouse overlooking two lakes and an 18-hole putting course. Rio Verde is far enough from the city to enjoy clean air, star-filled nights and lush desert landscaping.
A healthy vibrant lifestyle is enhanced by Tonto Verde’s two eighteen hole golf courses, community center, pools and nearby ranch and riding stables as well as a broad range of physical, social and intellectual activities.
Tonto Verde Real Estate
With just over 700 properties, the community is large enough to support the two golf courses and sustain lots of clubs and activities, yet small enough to know most of the people in the community.
There are some townhomes, but most of the community is comprised of custom or semi-custom single-family homes. Most of the custom homes will range in price from $1 million to $3 million.
Blue Sky at Tonto Verde
Blue Sky is small gated community of 30 newer, smaller homes on small lots built by Taylor Morrison from 2019-2020. These types of homes are sometimes referred to as patio homes. There are only two floorplans at Blue Sky, 1,394 and 1,528 SF, and they are all single-level homes. It’s an ideal situation for those who love this serene and majestic area, but don’t need the large houses on the large lots that are most prevalent for this neighborhood.
About the Rio Verde Area
Rio Verde is a very rural area in the far northeast section of the Greater Phoenix metro area. The terrain is rugged, natural Sonoran Desert, and evenings can offer quiet surroundings and blissful views of the stars in the desert sky. Rio Verde is an ideal location for people who enjoy outdoor activities and like to be close to nature
The three active lifestyle communities often referred to as “The Verdes” consists of Rio Verde, Tonto Verde and Trilogy at Verde River. Rio Verde has a private utility company that provides water and sewer to all three communities, its own post office, a convenience store and a beautiful nondenominational, community-built church with services for both protestants and Catholics.
It’s location next to Scottsdale makes it desirable for those looking for a rural location away from crowds and traffic, but not too far from the convenience of city life. Expect about a 15-20 minute drive to far North Scottsdale, and about 30-40 minutes to the more “in-town” Scottsdale locations
